Assistance and accessibility

Introduction

Handicap laws (see related text on www.legifrance.gouv.fr) require that all public websites be accessible to disabled people. On the Internet, this law is a follow-up to the WAI, Web Accessibility Initiative, which provides guidelines for creating websites perceivable, operable and understandable by all web users, whatever Internet browser they are using: (desktop browser, braille browser, vocal software…).

If, in spite of the infinite care we have taken in the creation of these pages, you find any accessibility issues that could be improved, we would appreciate it if you could take the time to send your comments and suggestions using the contact form.

Accessibility

Ergonomics and navigation

In accordance with WAI guidelines, the Metz Tourist Office website applies simple user rules and ergonomics. Thus, the same layout and navigation mechanisms apply to the whole site: the logo which directs the user to the home page, a menu bar, in some cases a secondary navigation tool to the left and in the footer.

At the top of every page you will find links directing you to the contact page, the help menu, the site map and also the search box.

Images

Design of the site is based on WAI recommendations. All images used to illustrate graphics are managed using style sheets and are in no way a barrier to speech synthesizer software. Images will disappear if you deactivate style sheets using options provided by your browser. Images used for illustration are described by use of text equivalents. None of the images contain written information, which would be illegible for text browsers, braille browsers or speech synthesizers.

Keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts are available to access certain pages or a recurring element on each page. To activate a keyboard shortcut, you must use a combination of keys. This combination varies from PCs to MACs. Also, these shortcuts use digits other than those on the number pad (on the right-hand side of your keyboard).

  • On a PC : alt + shift + one key or alt + one key (excluding the number pad)
  • On a Mac : ctrl + shift + one key or apple + one key (excluding the number pad)

Here is a list of keyboard shortcuts:

  • 1 : Home Page
  • 3 : Site Map
  • 4 : Search Box
  • 6 : Help
  • 7 : Contact Us
  • 8 : Legal Information

If you use Internet Explorer, hit the "Enter" button after having made your keyboard shortcut selection (ALT + SHIFT + key then ENTER).
