Introduction

The "Moyen Pont" (Middle Bridge), originally known as the "Moyen Pont des Morts" (Middle Bridge of the Dead), and the "Pont des Morts" (Bridge of the Dead), located in its extension, owe their name to the fact that their construction was financed by the Saint-Nicolas hospital, which collected and sold the best clothes of every dead person in Metz.
The Moyen Pont was fortified, and you can still see the opening where the gates were lowered to block access to the city from the river as you stroll along the Moselle.
