Introduction
Engraver Paul Rey, based in the Tarn region, is exhibiting in Metz this summer.
A self-proclaimed self-taught artist, Paul Rey develops a direct and uncompromising approach to linocut in his studio in Lavaur, one infused with humor, freedom, and an unapologetic taste for images that are a bit edgy. The exhibition features linocuts and Tetra Pak engravings—a recycling technique that uses food packaging as printing plates. Under his gouge, animals, everyday scenes, and familiar figures become images that are funny, sensitive, and sometimes biting. After drawing, painting, and ceramics, printmaking has allowed her to rediscover a sense of the essential. Bold lines, a synthetic sensibility, raw charm, strong colors, and subtle irony come together to form a personal universe, blending popular culture, joyful absurdity, and true artisanal skill.
