Introduction
Pop music isn't the only genre that features remixes.
In his *Variations on a Theme by Haydn*, Johannes Brahms uses an excerpt from his predecessor's work to develop eight impressive variations. While Sara Glojnaric subverts the conventions of pop music, the great minimalist composer John Adams, in *Absolute Jest*, explores all the rhythmic possibilities of Ludwig van Beethoven’s late string quartets—whose music also opens this concert with great panache. Victor Jacob (named “Best New Conductor” at the 2023 Victoires de la Musique) and the wonderful musicians of the Diotima Quartet will be our guides on this breathtaking journey.
