Introduction

Ten world-class musicians, brought together by Fred Pouget to form Maxiphone, reinterpret the music of Jean-Philippe Rameau, the great French composer of the late Baroque and early Classical periods.
The result is magical. The hybrid ensemble—featuring a hurdy-gurdy, electronic effects, a diatonic accordion, a mandolin, and an ethereal wind section—delightfully meanders through the heart of Rameau’s work. The composer’s presence emerges in fleeting moments, while jazz motifs surface between melodies and birdsong echoes in the background. This reinterpretation is like a stroll—full of surprises and detours—following in the footsteps of the Maxiphone’s tightrope walkers.
