Introduction
METAMKINE INTERVENTION UNIT
Christophe Auger & Xavier Quérel, film projectors
Jérôme Noetinger, electroacoustic setup
The Metamkine Intervention Unit consists of Christophe Auger, Xavier Quérel, and Jérôme Noetinger. Their performances combine 16mm projections and electroacoustic music, in the grand tradition of “expanded cinema.”
The musician and the filmmakers are on stage, facing the audience. Two mirrors installed in the auditorium reflect the images onto a screen placed behind them. Sound and images are manipulated in real time. The Intervention Unit explores an interplay between image and sound, treating the film projector as an instrument—much like a tape recorder, for example. Cinema for the ears, music for the eyes.
Since 1987, they have presented their work at numerous festivals, movie theaters, galleries, and independent venues in France, Europe, Canada, the United States, Japan, and Australia. They have also collaborated with other groups such as Nachtluft, Voice Crack, Kinobits, Loophole Cinema, Tom Cora, La Flibuste, and Le Cube (with Gaëlle Rouard, Etienne Caire, Christophe Cardoen, and Lionel Marchetti).
