Introduction
The first Hôtel de l'Intendance was built in the 18th century as part of a major town-planning project under the direction of Maréchal de Belle-Isle, who gave Metz its first taste of the classical style. Seat of the Prefecture since 1806, the building on the left was partially rebuilt on the same model after a fire.
