Introduction

One Thursday a month, meet an artist, a work, a movement or a current of thought that has marked the history of art.

By Elsa DE SMET

In recent years, art historians have developed new approaches to the analysis of works of art: olfactory studies, cognitive studies, perceptive studies. Drawing on several examples from the history of modern and contemporary art, this talk outlines some of the principles associated with this new research, which opens up a whole new receptive field for apprehending works of art and exhibitions.
