Introduction

To mark the 10th edition of Constellations de Metz, not one but six light shows are being projected onto the cathedral’s facade.

Lux Animae - Yann Nguema (France)
Lux Animae transforms the 25,000 stones and the stained-glass windows of Saint-Étienne Cathedral into a unique contemporary ballet of images and light.
Music: EZ3kiel

Climate - Onionlab (Spain)
Climate explores the tension between two possible futures, shaped by our relationship with the environment.

Fractals - Felix Frank (Germany)
Fractals seeks to explore humanity’s universal and innate understanding of the world, deep within the subconscious. The audience witnesses the creation and transformation of light into atmospheric gases, which evolve into liquid and atomic structures, and finally into solid matter. The orchestral soundtrack is tuned to a frequency of 432 Hz, thus respecting the order of the universe.

Nature - FLIGHTGRAF (Japan)
This work is rooted in a primal connection to nature. It stirs our senses in this digital age and reveals that a utopia lies within nature.

AI DATANOVA - Ouchhh (Turkey)
A “datanova” (data supernova) is the explosion of a cluster of stars—the largest such event that can occur in space. Ouchhh draws inspiration from Metz’s star maps to establish a sonic and visual dialogue between the city’s urban and stellar landscapes.

Glass Box - Filip Roca and Zarko Komar (Portugal, Serbia)
Glass Box presents itself as a space conducive to meditation. It takes shape by temporarily transforming the physical space into a playground with shifting contours, serving one of the major goals of architectural modernism: to dematerialize the wall and harmoniously connect the interior to the exterior. It seeks to explore freedom in public space, aiming to establish connections between this freedom and its environment by creating a temporary space for communication that could well spark new transformations and pave the way for dialogue.

The first video mapping projection on Saint-Étienne Cathedral takes place 30 minutes after the sites open, at nightfall.
