Introduction

This concert is a magnificent tribute to Clara Schumann.

Conductor David Reiland begins by conducting *Clara*, a stunning portrait of the great Mexican composer (winner of the 2026 Grammy Award for Best Classical Composition) Gabriela Ortiz, dedicated to her colleague whom she describes as “a splendid composer, one of the most important pianists of the 19th century.” In Robert Schumann’s beautiful Symphony No. 4, Clara is literally everywhere, as the anagram of her first name serves as the central theme of this captivating work. Similarly, it is said that Johannes Brahms revealed his hidden passion for her through his music. Should we hear, in the sublime slow movement of his monumental* Piano Concerto No. 2*, a secret love duet? Geoffroy Couteau is one of the preeminent interpreters of this majestic masterpiece.
