A flamboyant heir to the Russian school, the Moscow-born pianist is a virtuoso with unparalleled technique. Under his fluid fingers, Rachmaninoff finds a performer par excellence—at once powerful and devoid of any sentimentality. Likewise, his mellow tone is a perfect match for the music of Chopin and Debussy, making him one of the great poets of the keyboard.
