Introduction
A leading ensemble in the world of chamber music, the wind quintet has recently seen a resurgence in popularity. Hence the temptation to “borrow” older pieces from other ensembles. David Walter does this regularly for his own quintet, the Moraguès Quintet, whose “American” Quartet is one of its “hits.” Toward the end of the 20th century, original works became more numerous and explored a wide variety of styles. “Summer Music” unfolds with languor and sensuality. The brief *Music for Wind Instruments* is more experimental, separating the instruments into a trio, then a duo, before bringing them back together. Paquito D’Rivera, a Cuban musician trained in jazz, delivers an explosive finale with his seven-movement suite featuring Latin American rhythms.
