Introduction
The Syntonia Quintet invites us to witness a true tour de force.
With his 1880 Quintet, César Franck created one of the most passionate works in the French repertoire. Inspired by a secret passion, the piece sweeps us away in a feverish torrent of emotions, which a contemporary like Edouard Lalo compared to an “explosion” of colors. Nearly blind from birth, Louis Vierne was a student of Franck’s. His impressive Quintet from 1920 bears witness to an unspeakable personal tragedy: the death of his seventeen-year-old son Jacques in battle.
The five soloists of Syntonia perform this poignant and essential work.
